Paws for Patriots 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment - ROUGH RIDERS Friday, October 29 |
|
The Rough Riders and The Tampa Club are sponsoring a Dining in the Dark gourmet dining experience to benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs – Paws for Patriots, on Friday, October 29, 2010. Seating at this special gourmet event is limited to 150 persons. Dining in the Dark is a sensory deprivation dining experience that started in Berlin and rapidly spread across Europe before finding a U.S. foothold in Los Angeles. At a Dining in the Dark event, you dine in pitch black darkness, the windows are blacked out, and the wait staff utilizes infrared goggles or other night vision aids to provide service in the dark. You are led to and from your table by a server who places your hands on your utensils and orients you to your surroundings before the dinner begins. After being seated you enjoy a gourmet meal that is designed to engage your senses of smell and taste with special combinations of flavors, textures, and temperature and is suitable for eating in a dark environment (i.e. designed so you can eat it with your hands if necessary,...it’s okay no one can see you!!) At intervals throughout the meal a concierge will describe the next course to guests and provide an explanation of what is to be expected along with a prelude of the tastes and smells that guests will be experiencing. This Dining in the Dark evening will begin with a cocktail hour in a lighted room, and then guests will be led to the dining room in a conga line headed by a seeing eye dog and its trainer. After dining in the dark, guests will be escorted back to the lighted ballroom for after dinner drinks and desert, during which time there will be an auction with many great prizes. The Tampa Club will be closed for this private event on the evening of Friday, October 29. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:30. Southeastern Guide Dog trainers and dogs will be available to provide guests with blindfolded tours of the Tampa Club upon request. The price per person for this event is $125.00, and includes complimentary cocktails, a gourmet dinner with wine pairings and dessert. All proceeds benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs and seating is limited to 150 people. If you are interested in attending this wonderful Rough Rider sponsored event, please contact Marcus Lawrence, at mlawrence@msllawfirm.com or 813-817-5268. This event will sell out, so please respond promptly if you want to attend. Paws for Patriots was begun in 2003 when it was discovered by a Southeastern Guide Dog Board member that the Veterans Administration does not provide guide dogs to soldiers. This spearheaded an effort to bring awareness to top military leaders that they could serve these blinded soldiers. In addition to providing guide dogs to blinded soldiers, SE Guide Dogs has placed therapy dogs at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD to spread encouragement to soldiers during their grueling physical therapy as they learn to recover from their injuries.
